Asia Theatre Education Centre(ATEC) is a novel international platform for cross-border and intercollegiate exchanges of theatre art. It was initiated by the Central Academy of Drama from China, Nihon University College of Art from Japan and Chung-Ang University from Korea in July, 2007 and officially set up on October 19 of the same year in Beijing.
So far, the Centre has nearly 20 member schools from Asia, America, and Oceania. The Centre has been expanding its size and reach in its more than 10 years of history.It holds academic forums, theatre festivals and other eventsthat gather the representatives of the member schools, as well as scholars, experts and organizations interested in Asian theatre education, in order to promote the exchanges and cooperation in this regard.
Livingin an increasingly well-off society, people now tend to crave for high-quality theatrical productions. Through international cooperation, we learn the experience in and approaches to theatre of different regions, so that we will all accumulateabundant materials for creating better works. Asian countries enjoy profound and distinctive theatrical cultures. Via the exchanges of experience, styles and thoughts, the institutions of theatre education will help topublicize their national cultures in the international community, which in turn promotesthe common prosperity of diversified cultures.
