Chungwoon University is a private university located on the western coast of South Korea. It has two campuses: the main campus is in Hongseong and the other one is in Inchon. In 1995, a 4-year college named Chungnam Sanup University (then renamed as Chungwoon University on July 1st, 1998) was founded by late Mr. Jong-Sung Lee, the chairman of Chungnam Spinning Co. Ltd.,and the member of the National Assembly. The constant sincerity and efforts toward the ideal and purpose of leadership education through creative competence development, personality development, and practical social contribution are a strong force that makes Chungwoon University always in a correct and clean position during this civilization transition. It has grown into a systematic and solid higher education center consisting of about 6,000 undergraduate students and 100 graduate students by running five colleges, 27 departments, one graduate school, and 23 departments of industrial technology management.
The University then received annual subsidies from the government from 1997 to 2001. The broadcasting sector of the University was also chosen for the government-led Local University Development Project and received a subsidy from the government from 2002 to 2003, which led to the opening of the Broadcasting Media Education Center (BMEC) in 2004.
Currently, Chungwoon University is focusing on establishing a global education system, diversifying educational contents, and fostering talented people with globality and citizenship in the face of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the great transformation of the digital information-oriented environment. To this end, we are actively interacting with 52 universities in 11 countries, including the United States, China, Japan, Vietnam, Australia, the Philippines, Denmark, and Laos, as well as 49 universities in Korea. Based on the related education agreements signed with numerous overseas universities, Chungwoon University students are gaining academic and experience at leading universities abroad.
The Department of Theater Arts aims at performing arts education that can express artistic sensibility and professionalism based on humanities. It leads the performing arts through curriculum and future-oriented education aimed at cultivating creative talents who lead the culture and arts industry. Based on new technologies that can understand the knowledge and aesthetics of art history and the history and cultural characteristics of performing arts, it allows us to look at art through modern perspectives and empathy. Based on humanities education, we learn how to analyze texts and reinterpret dramatic scenes to express them, and present future art visions through the convergence process of new knowledge genres and media with humanities knowledge and literacy.
The Department of Theater Arts produces future leading artists with active creative expression skills by operating a convergence curriculum for detailed majors specialized in acting, directing, and stage art (stage, lighting, and video) and a production system (performance creation work) every semester through field-oriented classes.
