The Mongolian National University of Arts and Culture (MNUAC), one of the six state universities in the country, is the largest and leading university in the field of Arts and Culture of Mongolia. The Mongolian National University of Arts and Culture has six subsidiary schools: School of Music Arts; School of Theatre Arts; School of Fine Arts and Design; School of Broadcasting and Media Arts; School of Culture; and School of Dance Arts. On top of Music and Dance College in Zavkhan Province, Foreign Language Institute, Culture and Art Research institute, Badmaarag High School, three centers, 25 academic departments, six administrative departments, and six shared core resource facilities, financed by MNUAC’s administrative fund, to serve common needs across the entire University. These include: - the Student Theatre; Library; Student Development Center; Information Center; our eco-camp “Harztai,” and a voice recording studio.
SCHOOL OF THEATER ARTS
The history of the School of Theatre Arts begins with the initial class of tertiary-educated theatre directors, located next to the National University of Mongolia between1957-1961. The period between 1959 and 1990 was the period when a broad range of works were implemented, such as: the opening of a theatre and film actor’s class next to the National institute of Teachers; initiating a tertiary training program; preparing the necessary faculty human resources; and establishing a professional department.
In 1990, when MNUAC was established, the Department was expanded to become the Faculty of Theatre Arts. Under MNUAC’s administration, the faculty was restructured in 2010-2012 as School of Stage and Theatre Arts, restructured again in 2013 as the School of Theatre and Film Arts, and then finally becoming the School of Theatre Arts in 2014. Currently, the School trains graduate, postgraduate and doctorate students in a wide range of programs including: theArt of Acting (film, drama, and musical theater acting); Directing Arts (directing plays); Culture Studies (theatre andfilm researcher and critic); Literature Studies (screen-play writer), Painting (stage and screen painter) and Theatre Technology.
