New Era University College, Malaysia

The New Era University College started as New Era College in 1998. The college was the outcome of many years of effort and unwavering support from the Chinese community. On 30 December 2016, New Era was upgraded to university college status by the Ministry of Higher Education. With that NEUC is now ready and able to play an even bigger role as a provider of quality community-orientated tertiary education to serve not only the needs of the community, but also that of the whole nation.

Our university college currently has seven faculties comprising of the Graduate School, Institute of International Education, Arts & Social Sciences, Computer Science and Information Computing Technology, Media & Creative Arts, and Accountancy, Management and Economics, Institute of Ageing and Professional Care. Within these faculties are ten departments: Chinese Language & Literature, Education, Guidance & Counselling Psychology, Southeast Asian Studies, Business Studies, Finance & Accounting, Information Computing Technology, Art & Design, Drama & Visuals and Media Studies. The faculties offer Diploma as well as undergraduate and post-graduate degrees up to Master’s and PhD levels. To promote research on Chinese education in New Era UC, the Tan Lark Sye Institute was formed in 2015.

It is the hope and the vision of New Era University College that it would make a strong impact and presence not only in Malaysia but also globally as a reputable and leading university rooted in Chinese education.

Drama and Visuals Department Established in 2004, the Drama and Visuals Department of New Era College aims to nurture talents for theatre and film, heighten the community's awareness of the performing arts, and to enhance the quality of life of our society. 

Since its establishment, the Drama and Visuals Department has established links with the local community as well as the performing arts community in Malaysia. The department has helped to stimulate the development of drama in secondary schools, as well as arts in the community. Course Structure of Diploma in Drama & Visuals consists of the training of various fields, including all creative aspects of theatre arts and film production. We emphasize the exploring of possibilities based on a strong foundation. 

Students are trained in the basic aesthetics of both theatre arts and film; while in the second year, students choose a major either in theatre arts or film according to their own interest. Through the 2.5 years, students will have the opportunity to collaborate and to assist one another, to learn and to grow together. Besides attending courses in the college, students are also required to participate in professional productions. After their practical training, students are expected to conceive a graduate production and finally upon graduation, students have the option to transfer their credits to our partner universities to obtain a bachelor degree. 

Course include Introduction to Drama, Fundamentals of Acting, History of Theatre, Basic of Theatre Production, Modern Drama, Intermediate Theatre Production, Appreciation and Analysis of Drama, Introduction to Directing, Playwriting, Costume & Make up Design, Set Design, Malaysian Traditional Theatre, Sound & Lighting, Drama Directing, Advanced Theatre Production, Intermediate Acting, Theatre in Education, Professional Apprenticeship, Graduation Production.
