Director’s Notes

"A Marriage Proposal" is a short play written at the first stage of Chekhov's career. By staging the play "A Marriage proposal" we hope to convey the cultural context of Chekhovian satirical comedy genre to the public through folk stage of Vietnam. The dramatic and exaggerated actions are expressed through the dialogues along with physical movements. This creativity can highlight the personality of the characters and dramatic features. This production basing on Vietnamese traditional theatre principle will bring Chekhov's dramaturgy closer to Vietnamese audiences in particular and to Asian spectators in general.
