Director’s Note
I sincerely congratulate you on the 7th Asian Theatre Schools Festival, which is starting anew after Covid-19. In addition, I would like to express my gratitude to ATEC, which is hosting this theatre festival. I am really looking forward to experiencing various plays and traditions of Asian Theatre University through this theatre festival. In line with the theme ‘The Glamour of Traditional Asian Theatres’, our school has also made a play to show the beauty of Korea. The play ‘Byeoljubujeon’, which we prepared, is a Korean oral novel that contains humor and satire about a Zara and a smart rabbit who left for the land to save the liver of a rabbit that will cure the king's disease. I hope you can feel the beauty of Korea through our performance. Lastly, all of the students of Cheongwoon University feel truly grateful to be able to participate in this theatre festival. I hope it will be a good experience not only for us, but also for all students.
Synopsis
In the depths of the ocean, the Dragon King, afflicted by a serious illness, invites a wizard to perform a ritual to cure him. The wizard points out that the liver of a rabbit is the remedy. The loyal minister of the Dragon King, the Terrapin Registrar, ventures onto land in search of the rabbit's liver. Rabbits living on land are living a very difficult life due to the fear of tigers in the morning, eagles in the sky during the day, and hunters at night. The rabbit, persuaded by the smooth talk of the Terrapin Registrar, believes that following him into the Dragon Palace will lead to a life of luxury and agrees to accompany him.
